Frustrated with the cramped kitchen and awkward existing addition, the clients wanted an improved layout and better connection to the back garden, as well as a proper primary suite. It was very important to restore the original exterior proportions and enhance the period charm of their 1910 Buckman four square. We expanded and renovated the kitchen, making space for a long island with seating, and added a small deck to connect the kitchen to the back terrace. New second floor space became a primary bath and walk-in closet.
Extensive built-ins were added throughout, for both storage and display. Adding a mere 363 sf and renovating the existing house streamlined modern living while maintaining the vintage charm of the house. Energy upgrades included a 4.3 kW rooftop solar array. Exuberant finishes (such as cement backsplash tile in the kitchen and Ann Sacks bathroom tile in a custom colorway) make the house inviting and cozy.
